Our Approach in Palm Beach and Miami

First and foremost, we believe in nonjudgmental support and a collaborative approach in which you share your feelings, needs, and wants during therapy.

Our clinical team is led by Liz Chelak, LCSW, CCTSI, CRPS, a licensed psychotherapist with specialized training in trauma healing. Through years of clinical practice, Liz developed the Sovereign Body Method™, which has been applied successfully across individual therapy, trauma recovery, and long-term personal development.

The Sovereign Body Method™ is a method that can include any type of therapy, which you and your therapist will choose for the systematic and structured retelling of traumatic experiences. Rather than an intervention, the method is a nervous-system-informed therapeutic approach designed to restore internal regulation, embodied awareness, and self-directed power.

It is important to note that you and your therapist will work on creating safety and a level of comfort before delving into the retelling of traumatic memories. Keeping you safe from retrauamtization is our top priority. Your therapist will never ask you to retell your story before you are comfortable with processing the experience.

The safest way to begin any trauma counseling work is with somatic and emotional regulation. This is always phase one in the Sovereign Body Method. The goal is to learn how to get into a relaxed state and minimize anxiety before beginning processing your traumatic experiences.

Once you and your therapist feel comfortable, you can start processing the trauma. You will have several options for which treatment modality you will use.

Some evidence-based trauma therapy interventions include:

Choosing the right therapy for you depends on your individual needs and preferences and will involve a discussion between you and your therapist. Your counselor will provide you with information on each therapy type to help you make an informed decision. Your counselor will be with you every step of the way in deciding what is right for you. Our goal is to help you connect with yourself to make healthy, informed decisions.
