Grief Counseling

Grief can be an overwhelming and isolating journey, filled with many emotions and challenges. During these times, having a grief counselor to help you process and express your feelings in a safe way can make navigating the process much easier. Our counselors understand loss and will not simply try to calm you; instead, they will assist you in addressing your experience in a way that serves you best.

Our team of grief therapists is licensed and registered, with advanced training in nervous system regulation. This expertise enables them to handle the intensity of grief with skill and care. They are trained in the Sovereign Body Method, which incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help you process and let go of grief. With years of experience, our grief counselors have assisted countless individuals in finding solace and understanding amidst the pain of loss.

Grief Counseling

Losing a loved one can completely change your world. The pain of such a loss can be so intense that it feels physical- affecting your energy, ability to focus, and function throughout the day. It is normal to experience feelings of sadness, anger, loneliness, and guilt while grieving.

At Evolve, our therapists use the 4-phase Sovereign Body Method to help you move through grief in a way that helps you feel and express- not just talk about it. The focus is on helping you connect to your experience without becoming overwhelmed, so you can understand the best way for you to move forward and be able to function again.

What to Expect

The Sovereign Body Method™ is designed to help you navigate grief without getting stuck in it, allowing you to feel more stable, present, and capable of managing your daily life.

In these structured sessions, the focus is on helping you experience your grief without becoming overwhelmed or shutting down. You won’t be pressured to discuss everything at once; instead, we will prioritize your safety and connection to yourself while you explore different aspects of your loss.

After completing grief therapy, clients can expect to feel:

The goal is not to rush through your grief or to “move on,” but to navigate it in a way that feels manageable and supportive.

When to Get Grief Counseling?

Feelings of sadness after losing someone are normal. However, if you feel your grief is prolonged and interfering with your ability to do your work, take care of things at home, or get along with other people, grief counseling may help.

You can start grief counseling any amount of time after you experience a loss. As mentioned above, feeling sadness and anxiety is normal. Typically, if you have been grieving for over 6 months and are still facing trouble with day-to-day life, it’s a good sign that it’s time to seek grief therapy.

Here are some signs you may need grief counseling:

You can begin grief counseling at any time to have a professional level of support in your grieving journey.

Grief counseling is important because it can help you learn a healthy way to cope with loss. Sometimes losing a loved one can be unimaginable, and your world feels turned upside down. Grief therapy can help you learn to cope healthily and release your emotions through body-based techniques.

Through grief therapy, you will be able to:

Grief Counseling Duration

The length of grief counseling depends on the severity of your grief, the goals you set for yourself with your therapist, and the progress you’ve made. Typically, sessions are 50 minutes long. We recommend a minimum of 16 sessions, but you can continue as long as you like.

Does Grief Counseling Therapy Work?

I provided grief counseling to a client who had experienced three significant losses in the span of a year, resulting in severe PTSD symptoms. After just three months of therapy, the client’s symptoms were reduced by 50%. Grief can be one of the most difficult experiences we go through. I have experienced it myself many times, so I can relate to my clients on a personal level. I know the pain they are feeling. But I also know that healing is possible. I believe a significant loss changes us, but we can learn to grow around the pain and create a new version of ourselves and our lives. It has become my passion to help my clients do this.

How to Get Grief Counseling Therapy?
